MLB: San Francisco 6, Philadelphia 2

PHILADELPHIA, April 28 (UPI) -- Todd Wellemeyer turned in a solid seven-plus innings Tuesday to lead the San Francisco Giants past the Philadelphia Phillies 6-2.

Wellemeyer (1-3), who came into the game with an 8.16 ERA, held the Phillies to two runs on three hits and three walks and earned his first win of the season.

Edgar Renteria and Pablo Sandoval both had two RBI to lead the Giants. Matt Downs and Aubrey Huff hit solo home runs.

Philadelphia, which has lost four of its last five games, had a total of five hits in the game, including two from Ryan Howard. Veteran Jamie Moyer (2-2) gave up four runs on 10 hits in six innings.

The Phillies took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Raul Ibanez, but San Francisco struck back with homers by Huff and Downs in the bottom of the inning. Wellemeyer, who retired 11 consecutive batters at one point, kept the visitors off the board until the eighth inning when pinch-hitter Ben Francisco singled to make it 6-2.
