Mavs' Dampier fined for ripping referees

DALLAS, April 26 (UPI) -- Dallas Mavericks center Erick Dampier has been fined $35,000 for publicly criticizing game officials, NBA officials said Monday.

The fine comes after Dampier ripped the performance of the referees during the Mavericks' 94-90 loss to the San Antonio Spurs in Friday's Game 3 of their Western Conference quarterfinal series.

Following the game, Dampier told reporters that officials had put the Mavericks under a "magnifying glass" looking for fouls while the same wasn't true for the Spurs.

Dampier later clarified his comments, telling The Dallas Morning News: "I wasn't going at the refs. It's just part of being a basketball player. You know the refs aren't going to make every call."

San Antonio leads the best-of-seven series, 3-1, with Game 5 set for Tuesday.
