Benesova sharp in Moroccan first-round win

FES, Morocco, April 26 (UPI) -- No. 7-seeded Iveta Benesova took an easy first-round victory Monday at the $220,000 Moroccan Grand Prix clay-court tennis tournament.

Benesova was on the court just 62 minutes in a 6-0, 6-4 win over Olivia Rogowska. Benesova piled up five service breaks and won 61 percent points overall in the match.

Also Monday, Olga Savchuk overcame 10 double faults in stopping Patricia Mayr 6-4, 7-6 (7-0) and Ioana Raluca Olaru got past Klara Zakopalova 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.

The Olaru-Zakopalova match took nearly three hours with each player dropping serve six times.

This week's field includes top-seeded Carla Suarez Navarro and defending champion Anabel Medina Garrigues, who is seeded third.

The tournament, the only WTA event in Africa, continues through Saturday when the winner will collect $37,000.
