MLB: San Diego 5, Cincinnati 0

CINCINNATI, April 24 (UPI) -- Wade LeBlanc pitched six shutout innings and Will Venable mashed a two-run homer Saturday as the San Diego Padres blanked Cincinnati 5-0.

LeBlanc (1-0) allowed only three hits, walked two and struck out three while Luke Gregerson and Edward Mujica combined to complete the shutout as San Diego won its eighth game in a row.


Adrian Gonzalez contributed a solo shot in the first inning and Yorvit Torrealba smacked a two-run double in the fourth to stake the Padres to a 3-0 lead.

The struggling Reds managed only one extra-base hit, Ryan Hanigan's ninth-inning double off Mujica.

Johnny Cueto (0-1) took the loss as Cincinnati suffered its eighth setback in 10 games.
