MLB: NY Mets 5, Chicago Cubs 2

NEW YORK, April 22 (UPI) -- Johan Santana allowed a run over 6 1/3 innings Thursday and the New York Mets capitalized on a key error to down the Chicago Cubs 5-2.

The Mets won their first series of the season.

Santana (2-1) gave up eight hits, did not walk a batter and struck out five. The Mets won for the fourth time in six games and Francisco Rodriguez earned his first save in five years by recording the final five outs.

The game was scoreless heading into the sixth, but Jose Reyes led off that inning with a walk against Tom Gorzelanny (0-2).

Reyes was sacrificed to second and he scored on a double by David Wright. One out later, Jeff Francoeur delivered Wright with a single and Ike Davis singled Francoeur to third.

Rod Barajas walked against reliever James Russell to load the bases and Angel Pagan hit a grounder to second baseman Mike Fontenot that should have ended the inning. Fontenot, however, booted the ball and that allowed two unearned runs to score.
