MLB: New York Mets 6, Chicago Cubs 1

NEW YORK, April 19 (UPI) -- Angel Pagan's two-run homer highlighted a five-run seventh inning as the New York Mets bested the Chicago Cubs 6-1 Monday.

Pagan's one-out shot off Cubs reliever James Russell (0-1) broke a 1-1 tie and put the Mets up for good.

Jason Bay added an RBI double and Mets rookie Ike Davis, making his major league debut, added a run-scoring single in the big inning as New York won for the third time in five games.

Davis, who was recalled earlier in the day from Triple-A Buffalo, went 2 for-4 in his first big-league game while Bay added a pair of hits.

Jonathon Niese fanned seven and allowed one unearned run in a 5 2/3-inning start while Fernando Nieve (1-1) was credited with the win after throwing 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Marlon Byrd collected three hits as Chicago dropped its third straight and fourth in five games overall.
