Volcano postpones Morocco golf event

VIRGINIA WATER, England, April 18 (UPI) -- A European Challenge Tour event scheduled for Morocco this week has been postponed due to the volcanic eruption in Iceland, officials said Sunday.

Tour officials in Britain indicated that instead of starting Wednesday as scheduled, the Moroccan Golf Classic has been put on indefinite hold because of the air travel havoc caused by the volcanic ash cloud of Iceland's Eyjafjallajokull.

The April 14 eruption grounded virtually all commercial air traffic over the European continent during the weekend. European Union officials said some traffic may be able to resume Monday.

Challenge Tour officials indicated they were considering rescheduling the event for later this year.

The Challenge circuit is a development feeder program for the European Tour.
