MLB: Pittsburgh 5, Cincinnati 3

PITTSBURGH, April 18 (UPI) -- Paul Maholm twirled 6 2/3 solid innings and Jason Jaramillo knocked a three-run double Sunday, pacing the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 5-3 win over Cincinnati.

Maholm (1-1) surrendered two runs on four hits in the outing, fanning five and walking only one, while Octavio Dotel entered in the ninth inning to record the save as Pittsburgh swept the Reds in a three-game series at PNC Park.

Jaramillo's double capped a five-run fourth inning outburst that put the Pirates up 5-0. Ryan Church and Bobby Crosby chipped with an RBI apiece, enabling Pittsburgh to win for the fourth time in five games and boost its home record to 5-1.

Bronson Arroyo (0-1) was saddled with Cincinnati's fifth straight loss. He allowed five runs on five hits with three walks and seven strikeouts in six innings.

The Reds got a pair of homers from Jay Bruce in the defeat.
