Langer birdies 18th to take Outback lead

LUTZ, Fla., April 17 (UPI) -- Bernhard Langer's 18th-hole birdie Saturday boosted the two-time Masters champion to a one-stroke lead after two rounds of the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am.

Langer carded a five-under 66, finishing 36 holes on the TPC Tampa Bay with a nine-under 133, one clear of Mark O'Meara (69) and Mike Reid (68), who shared second place at eight-under 134.

Langer is looking for his second Champions Tour win since February and ninth overall. His round included six birdies and a bogey. On the 18th, he got to within five feet of the pin thanks to a six-iron shot and then sank the putt to pull ahead.

Tom Kite shot a sizzling 67 and ended the day two off the pace at 135.

Defending champion Nick Price shot a 70 to produce a three-way tie at 136 while two-time Outback champ Tom Watson (70) and three other players were grouped one shot further back at 137.
