NHL: Phoenix 3, Los Angeles 2 (SO)

LOS ANGELES, April 9 (UPI) -- Adrian Aucoin scored the game-winner in the fourth round of the shootout Thursday, giving the Phoenix Coyotes a 3-2 victory over Los Angeles.

The Kings, with the one point they earned, moved into a tie with Nashville and Detroit for fifth place in the Western Conference. The team that finishes fifth will meet Phoenix in the first round of the playoffs.

Detroit and Los Angeles have two games remaining and Nashville has only one.

Phoenix faced a 2-0 deficit heading into the game's final stages, but Matthew Lombardi scored with 7:17 to play and Taylor Pyatt tied it 1:24 later.

Radim Vrbata faced a must-score situation in the third round of the shootout for the Coyotes and he came through to keep the game alive. After Jarret Stoll failed to score for the Kings, Aucoin produced the winning shot against Jonathan Quick.

Jason LaBarbera made 22 saves for Phoenix. Quick stopped 25 shots.
