PONTE VEDRA, Fla., April 8 (UPI) -- Fourth-seeded Elena Vesnina and No. 8 Melanie Oudin advanced to the quarterfinals Thursday at the MPS Group Championships.
Vesnina stormed past Julia Goerges 6-3, 6-2 at the Sawgrass Country Club. Oudin needed 2 1/2 hours to defeat Peng Shuai 2-6, 7-5, 7-5. The two winners will meet in the quarterfinals.

In other action, Varvara Lepchenko routed Angelique Kerber 6-1, 6-1 and Olga Govortsova defeated Anna Tatishvili 6-2, 6-2. Lepchenko and Govortsova will play Friday.
