NHL: Edmonton 5, Colorado 4 (OT)

EDMONTON, Alberta, April 8 (UPI) -- Ryan Whitney scored with 70 seconds left in overtime Wednesday, giving the Edmonton Oilers a 5-4 decision over Colorado.

Whitney delivered a one-timer from the low slot after taking a pass from Dustin Penner from behind the goal line. Penner had a goal and two assists in helping Edmonton, which will finish the season with the lowest point total in the NHL, win its second straight.

Jeff Deslauriers made 31 saves to get the victory.

Colorado, with the point it earned for the overtime loss, moved within three of Los Angeles for seventh place in the Western Conference. Both teams have two games remaining.

Peter Budaj gave up all five Edmonton goals on 45 shots. Colorado built an early 3-0 lead, but saw that advantage cut to 3-2 before the end of the first period.
