NHL: Detroit 4, Columbus 3

DETROIT, April 7 (UPI) -- Tomas Holmstrom started a three-goal outburst in a 76-second span of the third period Wednesday, rallying the Detroit Red Wings to a 4-3 victory over Columbus.

Holmstrom's power-play goal was followed by scores from Nicklas Lidstrom and Daniel Cleary, giving the Red Wings a 4-2 advantage.

Jimmy Howard made 21 saves for Detroit, which ended a two-game skid and jumped past Los Angeles into sixth place in the Western Conference.

Columbus, which has lost four in a row, got 31 saves from Steve Mason. The teams play again Friday in Columbus in the final contest of the season for the Blue Jackets and the next-to-last game for Detroit.
