COL BKB: Saint Mary's 75, Villanova 68

PROVIDENCE, R.I., March 20 (UPI) -- Omar Samhan poured in 32 points Saturday to boost Saint Mary's to a 75-68 upset of Villanova in an NCAA Tournament South Region second-round game.

Saint Mary's, the No. 10 seed in the region, prevailed over No. 2 seed Villanova as Samhan pulled down seven rebounds and came up with a key blocked shot in the final minute.

The Gaels (28-5), who won their first NCAA Tournament game in 51 years Thursday when they downed Richmond, got 15 points from Mickey McConnell, including a go-ahead 3-pointer in the waning seconds, while Matthew Dellavedova ended with 14 points.

The win earned Saint Mary's a date against either Old Dominion or Baylor.

Villanova's Scottie Reynolds and Corey Fisher, who were both held out of the starting lineup in the first round against Robert Morris, were not effective. Reynolds was 2-of-11 from the field for 8 points and Fisher finished with nine for the Wildcats (25-8).
