NHL: Detroit 4, Calgary 2

DETROIT, March 9 (UPI) -- Rene Bourque assisted on one third-period goal and scored another, rallying the Calgary Flames to a 4-2 victory over Detroit Tuesday.

With the win, the Flames climbed over the Red Wings in the race for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference with 32 days left in the season, putting the defending Stanley Cup champs in danger of missing the post-season for the first time in 20 years.

Trailing 2-1 entering the third period, Bourque's shot from the left circle was saved by Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard, but Jerome Iginla scored on the rebound at the 5:45 mark to tie the contest.

Bourque netted the game-winner 91 seconds later when he scored on the rebound of a shot by Robyn Regehr. Chris Higgins' empty-netter with 45 seconds to play sealed the victory.

Miikka Kiprusoff made 28 saves in the victory.

The Red Wings got goals from Tomas Holmstrom and Pavel Datsyuk in loss.
