CLEVELAND, March 9 (UPI) -- The Cleveland Browns have terminated the contract of quarterback Derek Anderson, the team said Tuesday.
Anderson, who led the Browns to their first winning season in five years in 2007 but then struggled after signing a lucrative contract extension, found himself without a job a day after the Browns traded a 2011 draft choice for Seattle quarterback Seneca Wallace.
"I want to thank Derek for everything that he gave the Cleveland Browns organization over the last five years," Browns head Coach Eric Mangini said. "He did everything we asked of him and it was a pleasure to coach such a competitive person. I want to wish him all the best in the future."
Anderson passed for 3,787 yards with 29 touchdowns -- one shy of Brian Sipe's 1980 club record -- in 2007 but overall compiled a 16-18 record as a starter. In 39 career games he has passed for 7,083 yards with 46 TD passes and 45 interceptions.
