Irish to clash with Terps at FedEx Field

SOUTH BEND, Ind., March 8 (UPI) -- Notre Dame will face Maryland at FedEx Field next year in the third in a series of off-site "home games" for the Irish, school officials said Monday.

Notre Dame Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick said in a statement the Landover, Md., stadium -- home of the NFL's Washington Redskins -- seemed like a good choice for a nationally televised Nov. 12, 2011, contest, the South Bend Tribune reported.

"As we looked to move one game a season around the country, playing in the Washington, D.C., area seemed a natural for us in terms of institutional fit," Swarbrick said.

The newspaper said NBC Sports, which televises all Irish home games, is expected to air the contest -- only the second time Notre Dame and Maryland have met. Their previous clash came in 2002 when the Irish downed the No. 21 Terrapins 20-0 at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

Notre Dame's first off-site "home game" was held Oct. 31 in San Antonio. The Irish are set to meet Army at Yankee Stadium Nov. 20, 2010.
