NHL: Philadelphia 3, Toronto 1

PHILADELPHIA, March 7 (UPI) -- Michael Leighton stopped 27 shots and the Philadelphia Flyers notched two second-period goals Sunday to post a 3-1 victory over Toronto.

Simon Gagne kicked a pass in his skates onto his stick and fired it home at 17:09 of the second period to put Philadelphia up 2-1, and only 1:16 later Daniel Briere made it 3-1 when he wristed the puck into the net off a pass from Braydon Coburn.

Jeff Carter got the other Flyers goal, while Chris Pronger added two assists. Leighton made 10 saves and helped the Flyers kill off a pair of Toronto power plays in the third period.

The Maple Leafs' lone goal came from Nikolai Kulemin. Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 22 stops in the loss.
