PHILADELPHIA, March 6 (UPI) -- Da'Sean Butler's running jumper from the lane with 5.7 seconds left lifted No. 8 West Virginia to a 68-66 win over No. 9 Villanova Saturday.
The Mountaineers (24-6, 13-5 Big East) hung on for the win when Scottie Reynolds' 3-point try for Villanova bounced off the rim at the buzzer.
Butler ended with 21 points while Wellington Smith added 15 points and Devin Ebanks scored 12 as the Mountaineers ended their regular season with a third straight win and a tie for second place in the conference with the Wildcats (24-6, 13-5).
Both teams were already set for double-byes into the quarterfinals of next week's Big East Tournament.
Reynolds led Villanova with 17 points while Corey Fisher, who connected on a 3-pointer at the end of regulation to force overtime, ended with 12 points and Corey Stokes chipped in with 11.
