With the win, Purdue also nailed down the second seed for the next week's conference tournament, doing so with star forward Robbie Hummel, who missed his third game after going down with a season ending torn knee ligament.

Penn State's Chris Babb (17 points) threw up a last-gasp 3-point try with 10 seconds left in a bid to tie the game, but missed and Johnson sealed the Boilermakers' win with a free throw at the other end.

Talor Battle also notched 17 for the Nittany Lions (11-19, 3-15).
