NHL: St. Louis 6, Dallas 1

DALLAS, March 4 (UPI) -- Paul Kariya scored twice in the first period Thursday and the St. Louis Blues coasted to their fifth straight win -- a 6-1 blasting of Dallas.

Kariya moved within two goals of 400 for his 15-year career, the last three seasons having been spent with the Blues.

Chris Mason made 29 saves to earn his fifth straight victory. It was the second outing in a six-game road trip for the Blues.

Dallas has played two games since the Olympic break, losing both by a combined score of 11-2.

Alexander Steen, Patrik Berglund, Brad Boyes and T.J. Oshie all scored for St. Louis, which ran Dallas goaltender Marty Turco out of the game in the second period.

Turco gave up four goals on 11 shots before being replaced by Kari Lehtonen, who saved 14-of-16 shots.

St. Louis climbed to 69 points, tied with Calgary for ninth place in the Western Conference. They are a point behind Detroit.
