Mets' Beltran queried in doping probe

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla., March 2 (UPI) -- New York Mets center fielder Carlos Beltran said Tuesday he has talked to authorities investigating a doctor linked to doping allegations.

Beltran, speaking to reporters at Mets' spring training facility in Port St. Lucie, Fla., confirmed that he had discussed Canadian doctor Anthony Galea with investigators, The New York Times reported.

"They already speak to me, the authorities speak to me last week," Beltran said. "They asked me a lot of questions about Dr. Galea's case and then basically that."

The newspaper, citing people briefed on the investigation, reported that authorities also are seeking to speak with former Mets first baseman Carlos Delgado regarding Galea, who has been charged by Canadian officials with trying to smuggle human growth hormone and other drugs into the United States.

New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez confirmed Monday that he had spoken to authorities regarding Galea but would not say if he had ever been treated by him.

The Times said U.S. authorities have obtained information that several professional football players who were treated by Galea received performance-enhancing drugs from him.
