Heat's Arroyo arrested after traffic stop

CORAL GABLES, Fla., Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Miami Heat guard Carlos Arroyo was arrested during a traffic stop Friday, police records indicate.

A report filed by Coral Gables, Fla., police said Arroyo failed to pull over immediately when signaled to do so by a motorcycle patrolman and was arrested after allegedly becoming confrontational, The Miami Herald reported.

The newspaper said police contend they pulled the Heat player over for driving slowly and impeding traffic. Their report claimed Arroyo "attempted to resist" being handcuffed and additional units were called in to help.

The Herald said Arroyo was later released after he promised to appear in court. A mug shot of the player reportedly showed scratches on the player's face and neck.

"We are aware of the traffic stop involving Carlos Arroyo this morning, and while we fully support our players, this is a pending legal matter and we will have no comment at this time," a statement issued by Heat President Pat Riley said.
