Fish, Karlovic gain Delray semifinals

DELRAY BEACH, Fla., Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Unseeded American Mardy Fish and Ivo Karlovic of Croatia notched quarterfinal wins Friday at the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships in Florida.

Fish, the defending Delray champ, will meet the 6-foot-10 Karlovic in one of Saturday's semifinals after defeating No. 4 seed Jeremy Chardy of France 6-4, 6-3 Friday.

The second-seeded Karlovic, meanwhile, used 23 aces to rally past seventh-seeded American James Blake 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-1 on the hard courts at Delray Beach Stadium & Tennis Center to advance.

In the other semifinal bracket, Finnish veteran Jarkko Nieminen will meet Latvian Ernests Gulbis.

Nieminen came back against No. 3 German Benjamin Becker to win 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), while Gulbis downed Leonardo Mayer of Argentina 7-6 (7-2), 6-4.
