Venus wins on clay at Acapulco

ACAPULCO, Mexico, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- American Venus Williams moved on to the second round of the Mexican Open Tuesday by knocking off Mathilde Johansson of France 6-2, 6-3.

Williams, the defending champion and top seed in the Acapulco clay-court tournament, will take on Kaia Kanepi of Estonia.

Third-seeded Gisela Dulko of Argentina also advanced Tuesday by holding off Czech qualifier Lucie Hradecka 6-1, 2-6, 61. No. 5 seed Carla Suarez Navarro topped Greta Arn of Hungary, and No. 7 seed Roberta Vinci of Italy rallied to beat Arantxa Para Santonja of Spain.
