Poulter dispatches Casey for WGC title

MARANA, Ariz., Feb. 21 (UPI) -- Ian Poulter dispatched fellow Briton Paul Casey 4 & 2 Sunday in the final round of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in Marana, Ariz.

Poulter collected his first PGA Tour win and first title in the United States after posting nine wins on the European Tour.

Poulter's win was decisive. He ended with a 2-up lead, but it could easily have been more. Poulter was 4-up at one point but Casey pulled to within 2-down after taking the 15th.

Poulter was 3-up with three holes to go at the par-3 16th when Casey knocked his shot into the bunker. Poulter missed a putt, but Casey couldn't take advantage when his bunker shot rolled 15 feet past the hole and he couldn't sink the subsequent par putt.

Poulter followed by one-putting for the par to notch his initial PGA Tour win.

"I knew I was in great form coming into today," he said. "I felt calm all day on the golf course. Nerves didn't play any factor at all. I played great. I'm very happy I won."
