Ferrero downs Ferrer in Buenos Aires final

BUENOS AIRES, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- No. 2 seed Juan Carlos Ferrero defeated fellow Spaniard and top-seed David Ferrer in the finals of the Copa Telmex tennis event in Buenos Aires Sunday.

Ferrero needed a marathon to accomplish the feat, breaking Ferrer's serve to go up 5-3 in the third set and going on to win 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 in a two-hour, 32-minute match on the clay courts at Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club.

Ferrer came into the final owning a 5-1 career record over his opponent but Ferrero won his second straight tourney coming off a victory at the Brasil Open last week.

Ferrero notched his 14th ATP title and won $81,400 in prize money.
