PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Mexico, Feb. 19 (UPI) -- Joe Durant pushed his Mayakoba Golf Classic lead to two strokes Friday, firing a five-under 66 at Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
After two rounds, Durant has carded a 12-under-par 130, equaling a tourney record set last year by Mark Wilson and Kevin Na.
His closest pursuer was J.P. Hayes, who posted a four-under 67 Friday to move into second place at minus-10. Alone in third place was Cameron Beckman at nine-under-par 133 after a 68 on Friday.
Trailing them were Tom Pernice, Jr. (68) and Brian Stuard (67), who share fourth at minus-eight.
After a slow start, Durant charged back late in the round. He birdied the par-four sixth to join Hayes in the lead, then closed out the day with birdies on eight and nine to pass him by two strokes for the top spot.
