MEMPHIS, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- The Utah Jazz traded guard Ronnie Brewer to the Memphis Grizzlies Thursday for a first-round draft choice.
Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley told The (Memphis) Commercial Appeal that the teams pulled the trigger before the NBA trade deadline on a deal that had been discussed for months.
The newspaper said the trade happened after a potential trade between the Grizzlies and Miami for the Heat's Dorell Wright fell through.
Brewer, a 6-foot-7 shooting guard, earns $2.7 million and will be a restricted free agent this summer. The Grizzlies will have the right to match any offer sheet Brewer receives in free agency, the newspaper said.
Brewer is averaging 9.5 points per game this season for the Jazz after posting his best numbers in 2008-09, when he averaged 13.7 points on 50.8 percent shooting.
