COL BKB: Kansas 72, Colorado 66 (OT)

BOULDER, Colo., Feb. 4 (UPI) -- Marcus Morris scored four of the seven points Kansas produced to begin overtime Wednesday and the No. 1 Jayhawks went on to defeat Colorado 72-66.

Kansas avoided a huge upset by dominating the early stages of the extra period after finding itself trailing in the final minute of regulation.

A free throw by Sherron Collins with 38 seconds left in the second half brought about a 60-60 tie and the Jayhawks survived a 3-point attempt by Colorado's Cory Higgins just before the buzzer.

Morris finished off the early overtime surge by making a layup for a 67-60 lead with 2:33 to play and Colorado could come no closer than three points the rest of the way.

Kansas (21-1, 7-0 Big 12 Conference) won its seventh in a row since suffering its lone loss to Tennessee on Jan. 10.

The Jayhawks have a two-game lead over Texas in the league race. Those teams meet next Monday in Austin. Kansas is beginning its second stint at the top of the national rankings this year.

Both Collins and Cole Aldrich scored 16 points to lead Kansas, which led by as many as 16 points in the first half.
