Melzer, Troicki win their Zagreb openers

ZAGREB, Croatia, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- Austria's Jurgen Melzer, the No. 3 seed, won his first-round match Monday in the Zagreb Indoors tennis event in Croatia, beating Daniel Brands in straight sets.

Melzer posted a 6-4, 6-3 decision over the German player and the No. 4 seed, Viktor Troicki of Serbia, advanced with a 6-3, 6-2 win over another German, Rainer Schuettler.

Croatian wild card Ivan Dodig turned in an upset, eliminating eighth-seeded Kazakhstani Evgeny Korolev 7-6 (11-9), 6-4.

Other winners included Olivier Rochus of Belgium, Ukrainian Illya Marchenko and Kazakhstan's Mikhail Kukushkin.

Marin Cilic of Croatia is the tournament's No. 1 seed.
