Coyotes' Doan leads NHL weekly honors

NEW YORK, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- Phoenix forward Shane Doan, who helped the Coyotes to four wins last week, was selected the No. 1 star of the week by the NHL.

Doan had three goals and six assists over the Coyotes four games from Jan. 25-31. He had three assists and the game-winning goal in a 5-4 victory over Detroit.

Also honored by the NHL Monday were Ottawa goaltender Brian Elliott and Washington forward Nicklas Backstrom.

Elliott was 3-0-0 on the week as the Senators built a franchise-record nine-game winning streak. He had 24 saves in a shutout win over New Jersey and also beat Pittsburgh and Montreal. Elliott was last week's NHL No. 1 star.

Backstrom had two goals and seven assists over four games last week as the Capitals tied a team mark with a 10-game winning streak.
