COL BKB: New Mexico 76, Brigham Young 72

ALBUQUERQUE, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- Dairese Gary scored 25 points Wednesday and made three late free throws to secure New Mexico's 76-72 victory over No. 10 Brigham Young.

The Cougars had a 15-game winning streak halted and lost for just the second time this season.

Jimmer Fredette brought BYU within 73-70 by hitting a 3-pointer with 26 seconds remaining. Gary then made 1-of-2 from the foul line, after which Jackson Emery missed a 3-point try for the Cougars with 17 seconds left.

Gary was fouled again and he made both attempts with 12 seconds to go, giving the Lobos a six-point cushion and all but clinching the game. Gary hit 12-of-17 foul shots.

Roman Martinez added 12 for New Mexico (19-3, 5-2 Mountain West Conference).

Fredette scored 27 for the Cougars (20-2, 5-1). The only other loss for BYU came Dec. 2 at Utah State. BYU leads the league by a half game over New Mexico and Nevada-Las Vegas.
