COL BKB: Duke 70, Florida State 56

DURHAM, N.C., Jan. 28 (UPI) -- Jon Scheyer scored 22 points Wednesday and No. 7 Duke fought off a second-half charge to defeat Florida State 70-56.

The Blue Devils won for the fourth time in five games to stay close to the lead in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Duke led by as many as 16 early in the second half before the Seminoles rallied within four with 9 minutes to play but Scheyer and Kyle Singler finally helped the Blue Devils pull away. Singler added 20 points and Nolan Smith had 11.

Duke improved to 17-3 and is 5-2 in the ACC. Maryland and Virginia each have only one conference loss.

Florida State (15-5, 3-3) was led by Solomon Alabi and Chris Singleton with 14 each. The Seminoles have lost three of five.
