UNIONDALE, N.Y., Jan. 26 (UPI) -- Alexander Semin scored twice Tuesday to power Washington Capitals to their seventh straight win, a 7-2 pasting of the New York Islanders.
John Erskine, Brendan Morrison and Jason Chimera each had a goal and an assists for the Caps while Jose Theodore stopped 18-of-20 shots during the first two periods before being relieved by Michal Neuvirth, who stopped all 11 third-period shots he faced.
In addition to Washington's dominance, the game was notable for a scary moment when the Islanders' Jack Hillen was struck in the face by a shot from Washington's Alexander Ovechkin. Hillen was hit in the chin and was tended to on the ice before leaving the rink with assistance.
The Islanders were led by Rob Schremp and Kyle Okposo, who each had a goal. New York goalie Dwayne Roloson was pulled after the first period when he gave up four goals on 12 shots. Rick DiPietro finished up in net.
