COL BKB: Michigan State 65, Minnesota 64

MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- Kalin Lucas scored 22 points Saturday and No. 7 Michigan State rallied to a 65-64 Big Ten road win over pesky Minnesota, playing minus starting guard Al Nolen.

Besides Lucas, who also had five assists, the Spartans (17-3, 7-0) got 14 points from Raymar Morgan and 12 from Chris Allen. The Spartans shot only 40 percent from the field but made 11-of-24 from 3-point range to win despite trailing the Golden Gophers for nearly 37 minutes of the game.

Minnesota (12-7, 3-4) was led by Devoe Joseph -- who stepped in to replace Nolen, who is out for academic reasons -- and Lawrence Westbrook with 16 points each. Ralph Sampson III added eight points and nine rebounds.

The Gophers shot 49.1 percent from the field and led by as many as 13 points but MSU wound up defeating them for the eighth time in a row.
