ST. PAUL, Minn., Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Drew Miller finally produced the decisive goal in the eighth round of the shootout Thursday, bringing Detroit a 4-3 triumph over Minnesota.
Minnesota came back from a two-goal deficit in the third period, but still lost its fourth straight. Detroit halted a three-game losing streak.
Both sides delivered a goal in the seventh shootout round and Minnesota's Eric Belanger began the eighth round by missing with a wrist shot. Miller bested Niklas Backstrom on the forehand side for the game-winning goal.
Miller also had a score in regulation, as did Patrick Eaves and Todd Bertuzzi.
Detroit appeared headed for a win in regulation before Martin Havlat and Andrew Brunette scored 60 seconds apart to tie it. Brunette's goal came with 5:12 to play in the third.
Jimmy Howard made 27 saves to get the win. He had lost his previous two outings in shootouts.
Josh Harding started in goal for the Wild, but left with a lower body injury after making 10 saves on 11 shots.
