Schwartzel wins second straight golf event

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Charl Schwartzel's 5-under-par 66 Sunday was worth a 6-stroke victory at South Africa's Joburg Open and a second European PGA Tour title in eight days.

Schwartzel had six birdies and a bogey Sunday for a 72-hole total of 23-under-par 261 and easily outdistanced the field in claiming his fifth career tour win. On Jan. 10, Schwartzel charged from behind in winning the Africa Open.

Keith Horne shot 64 Sunday and Darren Clarke a 68 in finishing tied for second at 17-under. James Kamte and Danny Willett tied for fourth at 14-under 270.

Schwartzel took a 4-stroke lead into the final round but allowed the field to creep closer when he had a bogey at No. 3. He came back with birdies at Nos. 6 and 8 and added birdies at 10 and 14 for a solid lead. He finished with a flourish with birdies at 17 and 18.

"It's been a fantastic two weeks for me," Schwartzel said. "I played good last week and it definitely carried over.

"I played pretty much flawless golf and I don't know what it comes down to -- maybe a good positive frame of mind when you hit a bad shot."
