NHL: Florida 3, Tampa Bay 2

TAMPA, Fla., Jan. 14 (UPI) -- Cory Stillman and Rostislav Olesz produced third-period goals Thursday in rallying Florida to a 3-2 victory over Tampa Bay.

The Panthers moved into a tie with Tampa Bay in the Eastern Conference standings with 46 points. They are in front of only two teams in the chase for playoff positions.

Tampa Bay had a 2-1 advantage heading into the final period, but Stillman scored on a slap shot 8:53 into the stanza. Olesz scored less than 4 minutes later.

Tomas Vokoun got the victory by making 28 saves. He gave up goals to Jeff Halpern and Steve Downie in a span of 3 minutes during the middle portion of the first period.

Vokoun saved a penalty shot by Martin St. Louis with 4:55 to play in the third.

Tampa Bay had won its previous two games. The Lightning will visit the Panthers on Saturday in the second game of a home-and-home series.
