EL PASO, Texas, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Tyler Haws' 20 points and 11 rebounds Saturday led No. 23 Brigham Young to its 11th straight victory, 83-77 against Texas-El Paso.
BYU led the close battle 37-34 at halftime, but started the second half with a 12-2 run for a 49-36 lead on Haws' 3-pointer with 16:52 remaining.
Later a string of six points by Brandon Davies gave BYU an insurmountable 70-62 lead with 4:31 left.
Jonathan Tavernari had 19 points and six rebounds, while Davies added 14 points for the 16-1 Cougars, who shot 54.9 percent to overcome 21 turnovers.
Jeremy Williams and Derrick Caracter led UTEP with 17 points apiece.
Christian Polk scored 16 points.
Caracter and Polk had five rebounds each, while Randy Culpepper scored 10 with five steals for the Miners (10-4), who have lost two of three.
They shot just 36.2 percent.
