BOSTON, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- The Boston Red Sox acquired first baseman Casey Kotchman Thursday in a trade with the Seattle Mariners for infielder/outfielder Bill Hall.

Kotchman, 26, split the 2009 season between Atlanta and Boston, batting .268 with seven home runs and 48 RBI in 126 games (386 at-bats).

Hall, 30, started the season in Milwaukee before being traded to the Mariners last August.

The versatile former shortstop batted a disappointing .201 in 2009 with eight homers and 48 RBI in 110 games (334 at-bats).

The deal was made on the same day the Red Sox signed free agent third baseman and former Mariner Adrian Beltre, who will replace Mike Lowell in Boston's infield next season.
