COL BKB: Texas 76, Texas A&M-CC 70

AUSTIN, Texas, Jan. 2 (UPI) -- Dexter Pittman had 18 points and Jordan Hamilton 17 Saturday, helping No. 2 Texas dispatch Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 76-70.

Pittman also had nine rebounds and five blocks, while Hamilton recorded seven assists. Damion James contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds as the Longhorns improved to 13-0.

It is the Longhorns' best start since the 1981-82 season but the 5-7 Islanders were the first team this year to lose to them by less than 10 points.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, which held Texas to 35.4 percent shooting from the field, trailed by 12 at the start of the second half but a 5-0 run made it just 44-38 Texas. A 3-pointer by James and a dunk by Pittman put Texas back on top by double digits.

Palmer later scored 11 straight Islander points to make it 66-56 with 5 minutes and they hung around until the end.
