BOSTON, Jan. 1 (UPI) -- Marco Strurm's overtime goal Friday lifted the Bruins to a 2-1 decision against Philadelphia at the Winter Classic at Boston's Fenway Park.
Strurm's goal, his 14th this season, led to victory at 1:57 of the extra session.
The contest was witnessed by 38,112 fans in unexpectedly good weather.
Friday's forecast had called for temperatures in the low 30s with a chance of rain or light snow, but Fenway officials told NHL.com the game was played in 40-degree temperatures under dry skies.
"We had a tough time battling, but in the last period we got the momentum going. We wanted to show something here in our town," Strurm said.
A goal by former Flyer Mark Recchi (power play) created a 1-1 tie at 17:42 of the third.
Danny Syvret scored the lone goal for the Flyers at 4:42 of the first.
