COL BKB: Syracuse 80, Seton Hall 73

NEWARK, N.J., Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Wes Johnson had 20 points and 19 rebounds to lead No. 5 Syracuse past Big East rival Seton Hall 80-73 Tuesday.

Johnson was one of five Syracuse players in double figures and contributed nine points to a 15-point rally that put the Orange (13-0) in the driver's seat 66-57 late in the game.

Kris Joseph scored 16 points for the Orange, who shot 47.5 percent from the field.

Jeremy Hazell scored 38 points, including six 3-point shots, for Seton Hall (9-3). Herb Pope had 15 points and 17 rebounds.

Pope scored on a dunk at the 13:00 mark of the second half to put Seton Hall in front 57-51 but the Pirates did not score again until Hazell hit a 3-point shot with less than 6 minutes remaining.

Seton Hall got to within 66-62 with less than 4 minutes to play. Joseph responded with four free throws to keep the Pirates at arm's length down the stretch.
