NHL: New Jersey 3, Atlanta 2

NEWARK, N.J., Dec. 28 (UPI) -- Zach Parise scored two goals Monday and the New Jersey Devils beat Atlanta 3-2, taking over first place in the Eastern Conference.

The Devils have 55 points, one ahead of Washington, which fell 6-3 to Carolina.

Colin White got the other goal for New Jersey, which has won six of its last seven games.

New Jersey goalie Martin Brodeur turned aside 24 shots.

Ilya Kovalchuk and Marty Reasoner scored and Johan Hedberg had 23 saves for the Thrashers, who have lost five straight.
