COLUMBUS, Ohio, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- Fredrik Modin fired in a goal 3:12 into overtime Monday, giving Columbus a 1-0 win over Detroit that ended the Blue Jackets' nine-game losing streak.
Columbus goalie Steve Mason blocked 34 shots in recording his second shutout of the year.
Modin took a shot that was kicked out by Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard but then picked up the rebound and drilled in the winning goal.
Howard finished with 39 saves.
