SEATTLE, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- The Seattle Seahawks say former coach Paul Holmgren will not be rejoining the team.
The club e-mailed a statement to the media Saturday night saying negotiations had fallen apart in the final stages, The Seattle Times reported.
The newspaper said Holmgren was most likely headed for a top job with the Cleveland Browns.
"After a series of respectful discussions, Mike has declined our offer to rejoin the team given the structure we proposed," Seahawks CEO Tod Leiweke wrote. "We hold Mike in high regard and wish the Holmgren family the very best with their new horizons."
Holmgren issued his own statement in which he said the talks with the Seahawks had been amicable.
