COL BKB: New Mexico 96, Nor. Ariz. 57

ALBUQUERQUE, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- Roman Martinez celebrated New Mexico's appearance in the national rankings Wednesday with a 17-point show that pushed the Lobos past Northern Arizona 96-57.

New Mexico reached 11-0 in a season for the third time in school history and for the first time in 36 years. The best start ever for the Lobos was 17-0 in 1967-68.

The Lobos moved into the rankings at No. 19, the first time they have been voted among the top 25 by college coaches in 11 seasons.

Jamal Fenton and Dairese Gary both had 11 points and New Mexico made 16-of-32 3-point tries. The Lobos scored the game's first 14 points.

Northern Arizona (3-6) was paced by Shane Johannsen with 14 points.
