NBA: Los Angeles Lakers 96, Chicago 87

CHICAGO, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- Kobe Bryant scored 42 points, including 20 in the first quarter, to pace the Los Angeles Lakers to a 96-87 win over the Chicago Bulls Tuesday.

Andrew Bynum had 11 points and Pau Gasol finished with 10 points and 16 rebounds for the Lakers.

The Bulls were led by Luol Deng and Derrick Rose, who each scored 21 points. Joakim Noah added 11 points and grabbed 20 rebounds for the Bulls, who lost for the 11th time in 13 games.

Chicago's Brad Miller had 15 points and eight rebounds.

The Bulls came out fast against the sluggish Lakers, jumping out to a 14-4 lead. But then Bryant took over, scoring 20 first-quarter points and keeping the game close at 31-31 after the first 12 minutes.

Chicago held a 73-72 advantage after three quarters but the Lakers went on a 14-4 run, capped by Bryant's long 2-point jumper for an 86-77 advantage with 6:35 to play.
