PITTSBURGH, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Evgeni Malkin scored a power-play goal early in the overtime period to give the Pittsburgh Penguins a 3-2 win over the visiting Florida Panthers Saturday.
Malkin, who had not scored in the past five games, took a pass from Sergei Gonchar and fired a slap shot past Tomas Vokun just 37 seconds into overtime.
The win was the fifth in the past seven tries for Pittsburgh and ended a two-game losing skid.
Ruslan Fedotenko and Pascal Dupuis also scored for the Penguins in support of Brent Johnson, who made 29 saves.
Vokun allowed three goals on 40 shots. Stephen Weiss and Steven Reinprecht tallied Florida's two goals.
Reinprecht gave Florida a 1-0 lead with a backhand goal at 10:25 of the first period but Dupuis evened the score at 13:03.
Fedotenko put Pittsburgh ahead 2-1 at 9:41 of the second period. Florida then tied it at 4:39 of the third period on Weiss's goal.
